The Human Side of an Olympian 4 of 4
On Saturday, April 20th,2019 2x Olympian, Lia Neal returned home to Brooklyn to pay her skills forward. Partnering with Swim Strong Foundation, she held a Freestyle Bootcamp. The event was a success and the NY1 News Coverage can be viewed via our previous blog post.
During the event, SSF founder, Shawn Slevin, took the opportunity to interview Lia’s biggest fan, her mother, Siu Neal to find out what her journey as the parent of a world class elite athlete was and what advice Siu could give to other parents.
This blog explores some of Lia’s challenges from the perspective of her greatest supporter, her Mom. Siu speaks about balancing academics and extracurricular activities. Lia has already done great things but is still a human with feelings. Her mom explores how she prepared Lia to deal with the pressures that come with being an Olympic swimmer. We hope this segment will inspire parents and young athletes on similar journeys to live a life of excellence both in and out of the pool!
