What Do You Really Know About Water?
This environmental program on water safety, “Know Before You Go®” (KBYG) can be viewed by you at home.
Why is water safety knowledge so critical?
- ·Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death worldwide.
- African Americans are three times as likely to drown as other demographics.
- 95% of tragedies are PREVENTABLE!
- Due to global climate change our water levels are rising and our storms are intensifying. We need more knowledge of and a different relationship with water.
“Know Before You Go!®, Water Safety For All” ($39.99) is an information packed video intended for individuals and families. If you would like to take a ‘deeper dive’, resources are available to delve further and explain concepts to children as young as three and can be adapted for students with special needs. We have also developed “A Social Justice Call to Action” ($45) package which includes access to the video Know Before You Go!®, Water Safety For All and A Film called Blacks Can’t Swim by British Hip Hop artist Ed Acura. This mini-documentary looks at the stereotypical reasons communities of color don’t embrace swimming through Ed Acura’s own journey. Through our Social Justice Call to Action package, we shine the light on the racial inequalities that have limited access to pools and swim lessons in communities of color. I am excited to share that we have been recognized by USA Swimming Foundation, Make a Splash, for our commitment to water safety during the pandemic and our efforts to require water safety education in New York State schools.
