Young Lia Neal and New Swim Mom Figure Swimming Out 1 of 4
On Saturday, April 20th,2019 2x Olympian, Lia Neal returned home to Brooklyn to pay her skills forward. Partnering with Swim Strong Foundation, she held a Freestyle Bootcamp. The event was a success and the NY1 News Coverage can be viewed via our previous blog post.
During the event, SSF founder, Shawn Slevin, took the opportunity to interview Lia’s biggest fan, her mother, Siu Neal to find out what her journey as the parent of a world class elite athlete was and what advice Siu could give to other parents.
In this blog, we review the early years. Dreams do come true, and are even sweeter when they are rooted in childhood. Whether your child wants to be a scientist, travel around the world, be an Olympian, or sell potatoes, these childhood interests matter. Parents may or may not be knowledgeable about their child’s interest. Siu Neal was far from an expert swimmer, and knew very little about competitive swimming. Watch the video, to understand how she overcame the obstacle of supporting her child who loved water.
